Jane & Maine

November 27, 2015 by rhapcityblog

I’d like to propose a toast… Here’s to the lady of the hour!!  JANE ORANS is more than just a sentient human being. She’s an idea. A philosophy of life. A force that is unstoppable. Simply put: I would totally choose Jane Orans over John Cena if I ever needed an assist during a fight. (He’s like the Gaston of professional wrestling for those of you struggling with the WWE reference.) This woman means a lot to me. Shall I count […]

Barbra Streisand Has FaceTime

January 25, 2015 by rhapcityblog

Beach Burns “Oh my GOD, my BURNING FLESH!!!” The sand was so fucking hot. Like, unbelievably hot. I tried to make it across the never-ending beach to the water, but it came to the point where I had to take to my butt and hold my blistering feet in the air like a bug that can’t flip itself over. I was trying very hard to not let any of this scorching sand get into my lady parts as my shorts were, well… […]

“What’s Been Going on Down Below” – by Dylan Bustamante

September 6, 2013 by rhapcityblog

So about a year ago, I was blessed with probably one of the most unique jobs a person can have in the Broadway community. Being dropped into a world where anything can happen, anyone can show up, and anything can go wrong. I work at 54 Below. Located in the basement of the old Studio 54, it’s the go-to theatre hangout where each night you are sure to find Broadway legends (Patti LuPone, Bebe Neuwirth), downtown favorites (Bridget Everett, Jackie […]

“Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp- Central Park Edition” – by Sara Logan Hofstein

May 21, 2013 by rhapcityblog

This  past Friday, I decided to try the Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp in Central Park.  One of my New Year’s resolutions (yes, I’m still keeping track of them) was not only to exercise, but also to lift weights alongside the cardio.  The blend of calisthenics and running offered by boot camps seemed a perfect way to meet that goal. I chose the Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp because of unsolicited recommendations from friends at work.  I call them my health buddies—we […]

“Dear New York”- by Eric Harper

May 13, 2013 by rhapcityblog

Dear New York, I’m a little embarrassed. I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to correspond formally, but I think we both needed some space. Well, I shouldn’t speak for you. I needed some space. Space to breathe and space to think. Because, honestly, when I moved out, I felt like I was finally thinking clearly for the first time since the day I moved in. The year and some odd months in between these two significant bookends were some […]

“New York Memories”- by Benjamin Johnson

May 1, 2013 by rhapcityblog

Our apartment was on 82nd Street, between Columbus and Central Park West. It was myself, my sister, Erin, and Joelle who lived together, on the ground floor, down a small set of stairs. I remember a young couple who lived there but we, or I, would only see them in passing. A couple blocks down, the Natural History Museum. Of course I walked in the park a lot. I would enter on 81st, where the Diana Ross Playground is. Even […]
