“Second Half of GIRLS, Season One” – by Benjamin Johnson

May 24, 2013 by rhapcityblog

If you haven’t read it already, here is my review of the First Half of GIRLS, Season One Now, on to the Second Half: Adam has come around, Hannah and Marnie no longer live together, Charlie has a new girlfriend, Shoshanna loses her virginity, and Jessa has gotten married…?!?!? Such is television, where things are always in flux in order to make sure the viewer doesn’t get bored. It’s also the reason why most shows end up going sideways — all the […]

“Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp- Central Park Edition” – by Sara Logan Hofstein

May 21, 2013 by rhapcityblog

This  past Friday, I decided to try the Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp in Central Park.  One of my New Year’s resolutions (yes, I’m still keeping track of them) was not only to exercise, but also to lift weights alongside the cardio.  The blend of calisthenics and running offered by boot camps seemed a perfect way to meet that goal. I chose the Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp because of unsolicited recommendations from friends at work.  I call them my health buddies—we […]

“Halfway Through The First Season of Girls” – by Benjamin Johnson

May 16, 2013 by rhapcityblog

Ah, I’m waiting for disc two to watch the second half. What a great show. I had seen Lena Dunham‘s movie, “Tiny Furniture,” and became a fan of hers from that. The writing (I would say she’s a writer first) is just soo goood. It’s almost a perfect show so far; I can’t think of any criticisms to make and I have no interest in trying to cull some up. At times while watching it, I would think to myself, […]

“Dear New York”- by Eric Harper

May 13, 2013 by rhapcityblog

Dear New York, I’m a little embarrassed. I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to correspond formally, but I think we both needed some space. Well, I shouldn’t speak for you. I needed some space. Space to breathe and space to think. Because, honestly, when I moved out, I felt like I was finally thinking clearly for the first time since the day I moved in. The year and some odd months in between these two significant bookends were some […]

“I’ll Eat Bette Last”- by Dana Craig

May 8, 2013 by rhapcityblog

So, here’s the thing. Bette Midler is completely satisfying. Her return to Broadway is very exciting for me, as Bette is a rather heavy-duty influence in my life. It passed the “unhealthy” stage about 10 years ago somewhere in high school. I have been known to cut a bitch who counters my steadfast belief that Bette Midler is performer perfection. Having said that, I must offer up a disclaimer for the statements that follow: What you are about to read is not a […]

“In Pursuit of Perfection” – by Sara Logan Hofstein

May 4, 2013 by rhapcityblog

I’ve lived all over this country but my first home was California. Southern California, specifically. Every time I’ve travelled somewhere new, I’ve always searched for the perfect Mexican restaurant to match that of California. Mexican food is by far my favorite, and I cook it at home frequently, though it never tastes anywhere near as good as that which is found in a restaurant. My favorite Mexican restaurant—scratch that, my favorite restaurant, period—is Viva Fresh in Burbank, California, closely followed […]
